By heart
TIAGO RODRIGUES
Tiago Rodrigues recounts the story of his grandmother, Candida, who, before becoming totally blind, asked him to choose a text that she could learn by heart. But what does ‘learning a text by heart’ mean exactly? By asking ten volunteer audience members to do this each evening, the Portuguese director and actor is not content to merely blur the boundaries between theatre, fiction and reality. He invites men and women to enjoy a singular and poetic group experience, one that gives rise to an act of artistic and political resistance, as well as a struggle against time and forgetfulness.
