Arik Levy
in dialogue with Atelier Hebbelinck Vitra Conference
26/05/2016
- Location : Salle de la Grande Main
A backdrop for a ballet, a crystal decanter, part of an air conditioner. During his 25 year career, the designer Arik Levy turned into handyman. The office furnishings, everyday objects, interiors and sculptures. There are not so many designers who feel comfortable in many disciplines.
His way of working. Her favorite discipline. How to mark their identity. Arik Levy explains his approach during a conference in Liège Theatre Thursday, May 26
Arik Levy (° 1963 Tel Aviv) lives and works in Paris. He studied industrial design at Art Center College of Design, La Tour in Switzerland. After a few years he was based in Paris where he opened a multidisciplinary studio: development of installations and sculptures to industrial design and objects. The client list is long and varied: furniture for outdoors for EMU, rooms for Ligne Roset and Molteni, crystal for Baccarat and Gaia & Gino, lighting for Lasvit Tractors, office furniture for Vitra, the sets for the Grand Théâtre de Genève and BatSheva Dance Center in Israel. His sculptures have been exhibited around the world. One of his sculptures was given a central place in the Atomium in Brussels. They were even used in season 5 of the series American Horror Story with Lady Gaga.
Since 2000, Levy worked for Vitra, the Swiss brand, for which he designed a series of office furniture and other projects. The box Toolbox tools (2010) is the practical arrangements for the desktop instrument: working equipment, accessories and personal belongings easily stored there and the toolbox then finds its place in the wardrobe, on the shelf or in the trolley. Its WorKit (2008) is a rational system of office furniture and versatile with discreet appearance. With DNA, assembly member cube-shaped, and some parts more, all WorKit can change and adapt at any time and easily to new needs, be it an extension of a reorganization or reduction of the configuration. Standard parts can meet many demands of individualization as they allow to realize the most diverse configurations.
