According to legend, Ingmar Bergman conceived the idea of organizing his own funeral after attending the grandiose funeral ceremony of Pope John Paul II.
Obsessed with theater and a perfectionist in every detail, he is said to have planned everything: from the music to the location, from the coffin to the decorations, making his final journey his ultimate work of art.

Inspired by this extraordinary figure, Angélica Liddell takes the Swedish filmmaker at his word and transforms the stage into a funeral oration celebrating his departed soul.
True to her intense, radical, and irreverent style, the performer and director inhabits the stage like no other, delving into profound reflections on death, art, solitude, and the painful relationship between artists and critics.
Like a macabre dance, she invites us to dance with her demons and obsessions to exorcise them and to reclaim the theater as the ultimate space of catharsis.

Presented as the opening performance of the 78th edition of the Festival d’Avignon, on its most prestigious stage, Dämon is an absolutely unique theatrical experience, where dismay transforms into a formidable creative force.
Bergman’s funeral? Perhaps… But certainly not the funeral of theater!
