Unlike her husband, Winnie Madikizela Mandela aggressively disturbed her contemporaries by refusing to forget the sins of the past and her mistrust for the reunified, rainbow nation. Junior Mthombeni, Fikry El Azzouzi and Cesar Janssens draw inspiration from this incredible woman, the leader of the African National Congress. Despite humiliation, harassment and being demonised and exiled, Winnie Mandela forcefully resisted the apartheid regime. Nine performers, actresses, singers and dancers from the African diaspora retrace her life and question their own multicultural heritage. Together, they challenge the white, male, Eurocentric canon. They criticise the lack of representation and the official history.
