ICIRORI
Consolate
- Duur: 55'
- Location : Salle de l’Œil vert
In 1993, as the Burundian civil war ravages the plains, hills, and mountains of the country, young Consolate, aged four, witnesses the murder of her parents and flees with her sister to the Kwitaba forest to escape the deadly conflicts. A few years later, at the age of seven, she is illegally adopted – like many other Burundian children – by a Belgian family and arrives in Zaventem in a country she only knows by name.
In ICIRORI, Consolate takes us through her childhood memories, buried deep within her until the age of thirty. She rediscovers them today through the process of reclaiming a stolen identity, which takes the form of a two-part creation, focusing on the senses, memory, traumatic amnesia, and above all, the healing process she undertakes and shares with the audience.
Driven by a powerful cry from the heart, the Belgian-Burundian performer invites us to accompany her on an inner journey, enriched by a documentary and intimate approach, which fosters sharing and does justice to stolen children – both here and elsewhere – so they can rightfully reclaim their lives.
