After he loses his wife, Argan remarries with the kind Béline. Although he is completely healthy, he receives all kinds of treatments (bloodletting, purges, and potions) which are given to him by nitpicker doctors who could not care less about their patients. His daughter Angélique is in love with Cléante but Argan wants her to marry his doctor, because he hopes to get the best diagnoses possible. But Toinette, his faithful and creative maid, is going to take the situation into her own hands. The situation gets out of control: the maid becomes a therapist, Cléante becomes a music teacher and the loving mother turns out to be a cruel stepmother who wants to drive away her husband’s children. By turning the world upside down, this play reveals true love and a terrible reality. Molière, as he knew he was dying, decided to use laughter to thumb his nose to those who thought science was the property of the elite. Director Michel and his wonderful casting are presenting us a great contemporary and humorous play.
