Le Mystère du Gant – Vaudeville à table ou presque

A table and two chairs on an empty stage welcome Muriel Legrand and Léonard Berthet-Rivière for a reading of a play with eleven characters. Le Mystère du gant recounts the vendetta held by Gérard Berni-Mollin against his competitor Raymond Duchaussoy on the day that the latter steals his mistress, Inès Berni-Mollin, Gérard’s wife, while Fréderic, Raymond’s son, appears to ask to marry the pregnant Sophie, Gérard’s daughter. At the heart of this family story, there is also an amnesiac, a wardrobe with two panels, the Couchard couple, a doctor dressed as a bird, the commissioner of La Folie Titon, and Claude, an immigrant employee who will be shot, lose an arm, be shot again and die. The writer, Roger Dupré, who is an expert in absurd Vaudeville humour, revives this popular genre and sprinkles the play with irresistible, high-energy misunderstandings and imbroglios. After a flurry of twists and turns that spill out into the audience and draw the viewers into the plot, the denouement occurs and everything comes to an end. Except…
