No stranger to the Festival, the talented Italian choreographer Virgilio Sieni returns with his latest creation. He has designed choreography for five dancers, against the backdrop of the sublime music of Arvo Pärt – the celebrated Estonian composer – interpreted on stage by 33 musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège. The created of refined, accessible contemporary music, which is inspired by Gregorian chanting and ancient polyphony, Arvo Pärt has developed his own styled called tintinnabuli, or the extreme refinement of composition. Based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Virgilio Sieni creates a choreography that aims to reflect on the infinity of gestures. The dancers, who appear as enigmatic creature- bodies, make their movements like calligraphy, continuously appearing and disappearing like waves. A creative transhumance in which mesmerising music, opalescent scenography and hyper- sensitive dancing meet in a single breath, as part of a quest for absolute beauty!
