Ni Ni Ya Mo Mo
Guilhem Chatir
- Duur: 50'
- Location : Salle de l’Œil vert
Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles
Sometimes, a work of art is born from an intimate memory. It delves into the past – into the traces it leaves on our bodies and minds – and awakens the hidden layers of our heritage.
Born to a Moroccan father and a French mother, Guilhem Chatir grew up knowing little about Morocco. His father, eager to fit the mould of French identity, had strived to ensure his children would feel fully part of France. Guided by the lullaby Ni Ni Ya Mo Mo that his father used to sing to him as a child, the Franco-Moroccan choreographer reconnects with a part of himself – with the complex, shifting heritage that has always fuelled his imagination.
On stage, movement becomes a living, evolving substance – much like our identities – shaped by the richness and complexity of origins, by memories that appear and then fade away.
