When Othmane Moumen learns that his father has stage 4 lung cancer – terminal stage – his life is turned upside down. His father’s life… not so much… Despite his illness and the removal of a lung, he continues to chain-smoke cigarettes as if they were breaths… taunting doctors, death… and his family.

Why does he continue to inflict such suffering upon himself? Why does he persist when he is so close to death and each new cigarette brings him closer? Questions suddenly flooded Othmane Moumen’s mind, questions he had never dared to ask his reserved and silent father. What were the dreams of a young immigrant 50 years ago? Had he always wanted to become a bus driver in Brussels? Why does he no longer move today? Why does he refuse to leave? Who is this taciturn father of whom we ultimately know so little?

Through puppetry and mask, Othmane Moumen attempts to initiate a dialogue with his tender father. He retraces his story, his immigration, from the late 1960s to the present day, and discovers a man full of aspirations, contradictions, and disappointments. On stage, he reenacts his life, his everyday adventures, and gives new life to this life of exile, adventure, piracy, fatherhood, and immigration, before he disappears definitively in smoke…
