At the court of Spain at the end of the 17th century, Don Sallustre, noble of title with a despicable soul, is sentenced to exile by the Queen. Drunk with vengeance, he hatches a trap to make his enemy fall in love, to surprise her and to drive her away. He uses Ruy Blas, his lackey, whom he disguises and introduces to the court, after having received his promise to serve his master, to please the Queen and make her fall in love with him. The shrewd director Yves Beaunesne, surrounded by a troupe of high-flying actors, works with the sublime verses and the sumptuous style of Victor Hugo.
