Walloon dance is the art of dancing as a couple within a collective: partners interacting, crossing paths, supporting one another and reshaping space through movement. Popular in village balls until the end of the 19th century, these dances were central to Ardennes rural sociability: communities gathered from neighbouring villages, dancing to the sound of “dance players”, on rhythms between 100 and 140 BPM — clubbing before electricity.
This workshop offers a renewed circulation of these practices: round dances, quadrilles, recurring sequences and then collective improvisation. Open to everyone, with no dance background required, it invites joy, shared energy and co-responsibility in movement. Led by Sophie Melis, the session explores a living heritage rooted in pleasure, encounter and community.
