The “Enfant terrible” from Italian dance, Francesca Pennini revisits Maria Taglioni’s La Sylphide and Michel Fokine’s Les Sylphides, two emblems of romantic ballet. Set to a bewildering live mix, a post-punk–techno-pop parade full of creatures laughing off codes and genres brings the sylph (“la sylphide”) to its demise. Then, as with the necrophagous beetle of the Silphidae family, Pennini extracts a new nymph from the “death” of a codification of the seemingly unchanging classical dance, that her daring vision revives. On stage, thrilling and contagious exaltation, formidable punch, refined sensuality, and technical perfection go from tradition to transgression. CollettivO CineticO pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance and transfers into an avant-gardist perspective where the thoroughness of the entomologist embraces the madness of the artist.
