The Gyre
Tumbleweed {Brussels/Zurich}
- Duur: 40'
- Location : Centre Culturel d’Engis
The Gyre (a whirlpool of water formed by ocean currents) evolves from merely walking. Swiss resident Angela Rabaglio and France-based Micaël Florentz spin almost constantly as part of an interlaced musical score. Their natural movements wind and unwind, transporting us gracefully through the outlines of time and into the consciousness of a universe where nothing is absent. Like planets, the entire choreography orbits around a fixed central point, which creates consistently varying perspectives. The line that allows us to distinguish the dancers from each other wavers, fades and, finally, disappears. Time gradually merges into the same curve, as it is broken down to the rhythm of the duo’s steps. Set to an electro-acoustic piece by Daniel Perez Hajdu of Cuba, the work stuns with its radical nature, its rigour, its dazzling beauty and the dancers’ excellence.
