1938. As tensions across Europe intensify, foretelling the worst, Gisèle and Henri exchange love letters and dream of marriage.
1939. Their correspondence becomes less frequent. Henri is mobilized and sent to the front. He now roams the Ardennes, Lorraine, Alsace — along the borders of Germany and Luxembourg — with purposes darker than those imagined with his beloved.
1940. Letters become rare. Henri is captured on June 21, after the Battle of Domrémy-la-Pucelle. He is sent to Austria, to Stalags XVII-B and A. Now, all that remains is to hold on and hope for the end of the war to be reunited with Gisèle…
When Laurent Delvert, quite by chance, finds in an old shoebox the letters exchanged by his grandparents between 1938 and 1945, he discovers a pure, invulnerable love — perhaps from another time.
For more than 7 years, Gisèle and Henri, his grandparents, waited for each other; they loved each other against all odds, carried by an unshakeable hope of reunion.
After staging works by George Sand, Musset, and Marivaux — great authors of romantic encounters — Laurent Delvert continues with Toi, Moi, Nous… and the Rest We Don’t Care About! his exploration of the roots of desire, its complexities, illusions, and ambitions, probing, through a musical form that explores as much as words do, the nature of love both past and present.
