Camille Panza / Ersatz
22/01/2023 27/01/2023
  • Duur: 1h30
  • Location : Salle de la Grande Main

Created at the Théâtre de Liège, this play by the Ersatz company is based on the iconic figure from the early 20th century. Fridtjof Nansen was an explorer, oceanographer, statesman, Nobel Prize winner and diplomat who created the first legal tool for people without a state: the Nansen passport. Director Camille Panza is loosely inspired by the logbooks that the Norwegian kept when travelling through Greenland, his experience with the Inuit people, his polar exploration and speeches and reports from the League of Nations. Scandinavian folk tales and folklore are added to this and mixed with sound and visual elements, as well as drawings, collected during a trip to Norway. The result is a show with multiple interwoven stories, one that is simultaneously musical, choreographed and technical. It is based around a tree structure and focuses on movement and the dialogue between mankind and territories. The protagonists of the story leave for the North Pole by boat with the aim of crossing the poles, only to discover remnants from the past in the ice. The group is trapped in a white desert and confronted with a detached time, a landscape that is undergoing change and a taciturn captain who is guiding them through this strange and comedic epic.
