PUPPET THEATER

From age 10

CREATED AT THE THÉÂTRE DE LIÈGE

While adults bustle about in a ruined house, preparing for the inevitable departure, a young child plays with a kitten. Asleep, she observes the world of adults on the other side of the mirror and engages in a game of survival, where compromises, despair, and empowerment grow.

A game to avoid sinking, to stay strong, to assert oneself, to keep one’s name and personality firmly in mind. A game in which one must participate, even as a pawn on the grand chessboard, even though it would have been better to be a Queen.

Through the eyes of a child, A Crossing explores the mysteries and mechanisms of consciousness and imagination that are activated to confront the absurdity of our world on the brink of collapse, torn apart by the madness of war. Drawing inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece, which follows the famous Alice in Wonderland, Natacha Belova and Tita Iacobelli, with the help of puppetry and object manipulation, engulf the audience in this world now orphaned of all rationality where a child’s fantasy – suddenly salutary – becomes an indispensable weapon against the manipulation of words, the domination of deleterious ideas.
