Northeast of Brussels lies the small town of Hofstade, known for its artificial lake and beaches – like a seaside resort for those who have never seen the ocean.
On the imported sand, seven young people – of all ages and backgrounds – thirsty for adventure, gather to talk and share stories:
“What if this stretch of water were actually the Ocean?”
“What if we built a sailboat to roam these seas?”
“What if we were pirates ready to discover new worlds?”
“What if we were something other than what we are?”
And so a new journey begins!
A story of escape, of fleeing assigned roles, of chasing blocked dreams, of defying destiny.
Because theater is imagination, and therein lies all its power!
As the second part of the Écume diptych (the first part was presented at Théâtre de Liège in 2024), Hofstade explores intergenerational relationships, questions inheritance – both what we receive and what we pass on – and celebrates joyful rebellion.
