Just fifty years ago, the American musical comedy Man of la Mancha was created at La Monnaie in the translation and adaptation of Jacques Brel, who played the title role masterfully. Ten years later, the famous Belgian singer died. Michael De Cock, artistic director of KVS, opts for a contemporary reading of this book in which Miguel de Cervantès, a guilty poet, attends his execution in the gaols of the Inquisition. With Brussels as the muse, KVS and La Monnaie join forces to breathe new life into this timeless masterpiece.
