In her previous project, Toujours de ¾ face !, Loraine Dambermont delivered a funny and magnetic solo in the form of a self-defence tutorial, adopting the persona of the most famous Johnny Hallyday look-alike: Johnny Cadillac.
With T’façon on est en 2012, the Belgian choreographer continues her exploration of the outbursts and overflow of violence in our societies, drawing on a phenomenon typical of the time: “clashes.” In these online confrontations—where people insult each other without restraint, where the relationship to the other becomes dehumanised—humiliation becomes the symbol of an exacerbated, often masculine, form of violence that crushes in order to assert dominance.
Inspired by the famous “Lopez clash,” Loraine Dambermont develops a distinctive choreographic language, full of self-mockery and extreme physical intensity, directly confronting the alarming rise of a culture that encourages fighting.
