Born of dramatic events and sewn of grey skies, trilingual, royal, and federal, Belgium is a brave people proud of their lack of pride. Riddled with bureaucracy, this country-confetti is full of facetious subversives and peaceful anarchists. Seldom fond of unsavoury sires haunting palaces and studies, they corner rules and protocol by impaling their ridicule. The Belgian indulges in life. He eats, he drinks and enjoys the potbelly he earns as a result. Radically ironic by denomination, with compromise as his banner, he decorates gardens and cemeteries with legendary hideousness. He indulges in football and loves the carnival. Celebration serves as the antidote to all the woes that burden him. The Antwerp iconoclast Jan Fabre, deploys his protean art in an ode to his complex and wacky country. The sewing workshops of the Theatre of Liège have made the incredible super distribution battalion costumes that the of this hilarious fresco is donning.
