La Valse

Raimund Hoghe {Dusseldorf}
30/01/2018
  • Duur: 180' with intermission
  • Location : Salle de la Grande Main

Maurice Ravel’s La Valse is interpreted on stage by the Belgian pianist Guy Vandromme. Its harmony disintegrates, going from playful motifs to obscure movements to signify in its time the devastating presence of war. Raimund Hoghe, playwright of Pina Bausch turned choreographer, lets appear migrants, refugees, and survivors from all human barbarities. The grandiose dancers carve into space the song of their loneliness through all the variations of the Waltz (la valse). The play with so many fragments that slowly acquire consistency, depicts a picture of Europe where the tragedies of the last century enter a disturbing resonance with ours. The programme of the 2018 Festival of Avignon included Raimund Hoghe’s new creation that uses the past to gain a new perspective on the current turmoil that is adorned with both elegance and despair.
