Loosely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s novel Mademoiselle Else, Jeanne Dandoy’s play immerses us in the mental labyrinth of a young fifteen-year-old girl. Spending luxurious holidays in a palace with her rich aunt, Else is going through that pivotal age where desire awakens, between fantasies and clumsy exploration. Having stayed in Vienna, her mother encourages Else to use her charm to obtain a considerable sum of money from the wealthy Mr Von Dorsday. A splendid pair of actors carves out the dark and tender poetry of adolescence, through the themes of abuse of power, influence and the question of consent.
