- Location : PARC BROWNING DE HERSTAL
Show premiered on 11 June 2026 at the Ursulines skatepark / Brussels
In almost every town, there are skateparks. These are often inconspicuous places, relegated to the margins — places we glimpse without really seeing them. With BETON, choreographer Julien Carlier takes hold of these urban spaces — their curves, their ramps, their rough surfaces — to turn them into the setting for an open-air choreographed piece. On this concrete designed for sliding and technical skill, two practices come together: breakdancing and skateboarding. Two disciplines that share the same relationship with the ground, with falling, with balance constantly being challenged.
The performance moves through the space, adapting to its contours, following its lines. What unfolds here is not merely choreographic—it is also a way of seeing places we pass through without really noticing them in a new light.
For beneath their functional and raw appearance, skateparks have something organic about them: forms that evoke dunes, waves and natural contours. BETON plays on this tension — between the rigidity of architecture and the spontaneity of the body, between the mastery of movement and the unpredictability of the terrain. Every impact resonates. Every fall opens up a new trajectory.
