Dancer, choreographer, director and artistic advisor, Benjamin Millepied is a leading figure in contemporary dance. For his new creation, Barbara, Du bout des lèvres, he takes us into the heart of the world of the famous singer Barbara. Her songs, both intimate and universal, become the very source of movement. In a minimalist, luminous space, the dancers – featuring a cast that brings together several generations of women – embody the full range of emotions that run through her work, from nostalgia to passion, from tenderness to tragedy. This diversity of female voices resonates as a poetic echo of Barbara herself, whose songs embrace the entire spectrum of existence: youth, maturity, memory, loss and the love that spans a lifetime.
The dance unfolds to the rhythm of the melodies and lyrics, transforming the stage into a space of sensitive and vibrant poetry. Benjamin Millepied thus celebrates the humanity and intensity that inhabit Barbara’s work, offering the audience an experience that is at once musical, visual and emotional.
