Show premiered on 24 November 2026 at the Théâtre de Namur

On stage alone, Lucile brings together a family from the Jura region, troubled by the onset of illness. Cancer is not something we talk about. We laugh, we eat, we dance, but when words become urgent, it is the silences and the unspoken that take their place.

On stage, Lucile tenderly and humorously re-enacts family scenes. She creates a dialogue between eras, places, the living and the departed. From this interplay springs a poetry that soothes the violence of cancer and the troubled relationships of a family faced with the possibility of death. But how can one speak when all doors are shut tight by too much modesty and fear? Through extensive work on song and voice, Lucile Charnier explores new, more sensitive ways of ‘speaking’, to celebrate the beauty that remains in the extreme vulnerability of the body.

In a form that breaks taboos, L’Appel des mutantes looks upon the illness with gentleness and lucidity at illness. And so emerges a form that speaks deeply of love, joy
and beauty.
