To celebrate its 80th anniversary, a multinational luxury goods company is organising a lavish gala evening for all the ultra-rich in the northern hemisphere. It gives carte blanche to a fashionable artist to design the staging. He chooses the jungle as his theme — a way, he believes, of reconnecting the guests with nature. The big night has arrived. Whilst preparations are still in full swing, the CEO announces to his inner circle that his niece will succeed him, to the detriment of his loyal and devoted right-hand woman: Eva Pritsky. At the same time, a snowstorm rages, trapping the guests in the ballroom. Humiliated, Eva attempts to seize power by orchestrating her boss’s death. But little by little, her dreams of glory turn into a nightmare and the sumptuous setting becomes strangely real.In *The Council of Villains*, Alyssa Tzavaras uses satire to expose our most absurd behaviours and invokes climate change to shatter the silk bubble in which this reality-detached milieu revels. A sort of *Macbeth* meets *Jurassic Park*, this baroque fable explores the monstrosity of power and shows how it inevitably leads to catastrophe.
