In January 2022, as the fifth wave of Covid raged, Léa Drouet fell ill. The symptoms persisted: nausea, fatigue, memory problems, brain fog. Diagnosed with long Covid, she experienced a persistent inflammatory condition that extended beyond her own body.
Far from being an isolated case, this intimate affliction resonates with other forms of exhaustion. Forests are drying up, resources are becoming scarce, whilst social unrest is rising and being trampled upon at the same time. Three focal points – intimate, social, terrestrial – that we prefer to contain rather than question.
On stage unfolds a visual and sonic landscape, on the edge of the marsh, the forest and the rubbish tip: an organic structure with a volcanic appearance, marked by burns, traversed by smoke and vibrations. We are invited to take part in a kind of vigil – a healing ceremony for inflamed and marginalised bodies – listening to fragmented narratives and stifled memories.
With Rodéo, Léa Drouet and Camille Louis compose a scenic landscape of texts, sounds and images. Three performers deliver a multiplied voice, where the “I” becomes collective. Here, there is no resolution: the fog becomes substance and long Covid the sign of a porosity to the world, echoed by the affected body.
