While artists have been tackling environmental issues for a while, the organisation of the cultural sector remains too resistant to environmental or climate issues. This paradox has encouraged people to rethink our jobs and what we do, in order to launch a global transition that responds to the environmental, social and democratic challenges facing us.

The Théâtre de Liège and Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne have established a network of fourteen European and international partners, called the SUSTAINABLE THEATRE ALLIANCE for Green Environmental Shift  (STAGES*).

Between 6 and 26 November 2022, the Théâtre de Liège, in close collaboration with ULiège and its Green Office, is organising the Forum Sans Transition! in addition to this network. It is inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the UN for 2030. The Forum presents shows, readings and installations, in particular by Djos Janssens, around the theme of ‘Cultivating Our Futures’.

The Think Tank, an interdisciplinary research group comprising artists and scientists from the University of Liège, is supporting this dynamic. Participatory and reflexive debates with citizens, stage-edge talks after shows, conferences, training sessions and workshops with other local bodies will make it possible to develop shared solutions to the challenges of a sustainable and desirable future, by placing Wallonia at the centre of emerging activities.
